Start with the insurer's valuation report

Upload the valuation report the insurer based its offer on (CCC ONE Market Valuation Report, Audatex Autosource or Mitchell WorkCenter Total Loss). It fills in the owner, claim, vehicle, equipment, condition ratings, fees and deductible, reads every comparable with the insurer's adjustments, and drafts the review points for the report. Everything it fills is listed here and highlighted, so check it before computing. The file is read on this computer and not stored.

Start with the repair estimate

Upload the CCC ONE, Mitchell or Audatex estimate (ideally the final estimate of record with all supplements). It fills in the owner, claim, vehicle and repair details below. Everything it fills is listed here and highlighted, so review it before computing. The file is read on this computer and not stored.

Independent market valuation of a total-loss vehicle, in the Autosource layout you already send to adjusters, with the USPAP scope, assumptions and certification an umpire expects.

Vehicle

Enter the VIN and click Decode — year/make/model/trim/engine, NHTSA recalls and EPA class are pulled from free government sources.

Equipment

Check the equipment on the vehicle. VIN-confirmed safety equipment is pre-checked. Add anything not listed.

Aftermarket / upgrades

Valuation: residual = depreciated value of the upgrade (default, defensible); full = pass the documented cost through; none = list only.

Condition (pre-loss)

Rate each sub-category as it was immediately before the loss. "Good" (interior/exterior) and "Well Maintained" (mechanical) describe a clean, properly maintained vehicle; the typical used vehicle of this age is rated lower, which is where the positive condition adjustments come from.

Pre-loss value

The vehicle's retail value immediately before the accident. Use guide values, or build it from clean-history comparable listings (the comparables table appears below when selected).

Clean-history comparables

Enter listings for the same year/make/model (same trim and body when possible) near the garaging ZIP. The engine applies the trim adjustment, then typical negotiation (0 for haggle-free sellers and sold listings), averages the results into the Vehicle Base Price, and documents each comp in the report.

Listings for the same year/make/model with a clean history, near the garaging ZIP. Trim adjustment and negotiation are applied, then averaged and adjusted for mileage to give the pre-loss value.

Valuation parameters

Every number the engine uses is shown and overridable. Leave blank for the documented default; the report states what was used.

Typical vehicle condition profile (auto by age — override only when the market says otherwise)

Equipment differences vs. the typical comparable (optional)

Positive when your vehicle has equipment the typical comp lacks; negative when the comps carry something yours does not. Use the depreciated value, not MSRP.

Taxes, fees & deductions

Auto-filled from the garaging state and ZIP (state motor-vehicle tax table + local rate lookup). Override when the owner's situation differs.

Damage & repair

From the repair estimate / final invoice. Upload it at the top of the page to fill these in. The engine classifies severity (S0–S4) from these indicators and the repair-to-value ratio.

Market evidence

Optional but powerful: dealer trade-in quotes with and without the accident disclosed, or matched pairs of clean vs accident-history listings. Three or more items let the evidence carry most of the weight.

Results

After an upload the case is computed and saved automatically once nothing required is missing. Opening the report saves the case first; print it with Chrome → Print → Save as PDF. Until you tick the review box the report is marked DRAFT.

Listing feed — MarketCheck

Finds comparable listings within 100 miles of the garaging ZIP and adds the closest matches to the case. The free plan allows 500 searches a month; when they run out, searches simply stop until the 1st — nothing is ever billed.

How to get the free key (about 5 minutes)
  1. Open marketcheck.com/apis/pricing and choose Free (Get Started / Subscribe).
  2. Create one developer account with your business e-mail at developers.marketcheck.com/sign-up. Use a single account — extra accounts to get more free searches are against their terms.
  3. Subscribe to the Free package (this is where you accept their API terms — read the data-use section).
  4. Go to API Keys, generate a key, and copy the API Key (you do not need the Client Secret).
  5. Paste it above, Save, then Test connection. It uses one search (two with private-party ticked), plus one more for the price estimate when a case with a VIN and mileage is open — that case's VIN, mileage and ZIP are sent to MarketCheck for the test.
  6. Optional: turn on usage e-mails at usage alerts (75 / 90 / 100 %).

Data-use terms: MarketCheck allows showing listings to you in this tool for a live search; keeping them in case files and printing them in reports for insurers is not clearly allowed. Before using these comps in paid reports, ask api@marketcheck.com to confirm in writing — or open each listing and cite the dealer's own page in the report.
